Last week, I recorded saxophone for a track I’ve been working on – and it reminded me how much I love collaborating with other musicians.
There’s something special about working with someone who brings their own style, energy, and ideas to the session. The sax player came in with just the right vibe. We didn’t have to say much – just hit record, try a few takes, and suddenly, the track came to life.
When you produce electronic music, it’s easy to get stuck in your own head (and your own laptop). But having a live musician in the room changes the dynamic. It’s immediate, human, and inspiring. You’re no longer building everything from scratch on a grid – you’re responding to a performance. And that energy carries into the rest of the track.
Even just one melodic phrase or expressive take can completely reshape the direction of a tune. It opens you up to new ideas you wouldn’t have found on your own. That’s the beauty of collaboration. You don’t need a full band – just one person with an instrument and an opinion can flip your whole perspective.
So if you’re feeling stuck in your process or want to bring something fresh to your productions, get in the room with a musician. Or send stems back and forth. Doesn’t matter how – it just matters that it’s not all you. The best part? It’s fun. It reminds you why you started making music in the first place and you get to hang out with cool people.
Let us know if a sample pack of these kind of instrument recordings would be good for you and we’ll make it happen.
As always, happy producing.
